What To Expect at Walk Of Grace

What visitors should expect at walk of grace chapel, a church in council bluffs, IA

One of the hardest things people face when searching for a church in Council Bluffs is knowing what to expect when they get there!

Let us help…

Thinking about joining us for church?

If you’re a visitor to Walk Of Grace chapel, we want you to feel comfortable when you arrive. Part of feeling comfortable is knowing what to expect. Hopefully reading this will help you know exactly what will take place when you visit us.

What are the services like?

Sunday morning services begin at 10:30, and generally end around 12:00. We spend the first 30 – 40 minutes singing songs. After the music our pastor generally shares his message for the day. That usually takes us up to about noon, and that’s all there is to it!

Our Tuesday Evening services follow a similar format to our Sunday services. Our Tuesday night services start at 7:00 and generally finish by 8:30

What is your music like?

We have what we call a “full band”, meaning we have a guitar, bass, piano, and drums accompanying our singer. Our style varies a bit from song to song, but most of our songs fit somewhere in the “contemporary” range (meaning we sing with a more modern style of music… that is, compared to “traditional” style of singing hymns with a piano and/or organ). Our worship team likes to mix it up with different styles, too, from rock, to country, to rock n roll, to island style, or whatever else they can come up with!

We are a very relaxed church as far as participation in the music goes. If you are comfortable standing and clapping and raising your hands, great! We welcome that! If you are comfortable sitting and listening during the music, we welcome that, too! Be assured that you will not be out of place no matter what you choose to do.

Oh, and don’t worry about not knowing the words to our songs. The words to everything we sing are displayed on an overhead projector at the front of the church!

What are the sermons like?

For a general idea for the beliefs that drive our pastor’s sermons, check out the What We Believe page.

As for the style of teaching, Pastor Hannah believes that the best way to gain an understanding of scripture is to spend time diving into the whole message that the authors were trying to get across.  He often selects a book of the New Testament and spends several weeks diving into the verses one at a time until he makes it through the entire book or section of a book that we are studying.

Pastor Hannah is a very methodical and deep teacher, so people who consider themselves to have a student’s mind will enjoy his teaching.  At the same time he is very straight forward and easy to understand, so don’t be afraid of the messages being too complex and hard to understand!  Each message is broken down in clear and thoughtful ways.  To hear some examples of past sermons, please go to our Audio Sermons page.

How should I dress?

Some people like to wear dressy “Sunday Best” type clothes while other like to wear jeans and tennis shoes. We want you to feel comfortable either way.

What about… uh… the offering?

Yes, it’s true.  We take an offering every Sunday morning.  We believe that God appreciates a cheerful giver, and we know for a fact that our church could not be here if it wasn’t for the people in our congregation that give.

That being said, as a visitor, we do not expect you to give anything at all.  We can promise you that you will not stick out for not giving, and you will not feel awkward in any way!

Will I Feel Out Of Place?

We will do our absolute best to make sure you feel welcome and comfortable!  You won’t be put on the spot, you won’t be singled out in any way, and you won’t be asked to do anything that you don’t want to do!  We won’t make you stand up and talk, we won’t ask you to sign up to be a life-long member of our church, we won’t ask you to prove that you are a world-class Bible scholar, or anything of the sort.  We want you to come and be comfortable, and we’ll do our best to make that happen.

Is it hard to find a place to park?

Not at all.  There is plenty of street parking in front of the building
